John 3:16, Coincidence or Miracle?

Will Pittsburgh pray or play in another season? A miracle is what non-believers in Christ call a coincidence. A miracle can be distinguished by the fact that a believer in Christ asked for the results in Jesus’ name. I know nothing about football and even as a writer I couldn’t give you two good lines about Tim Tebow of the Denver Broncos except that he is both a professing Christian and a man of prayer. Jesus said, “To preach the gospel of Christ as a testimony and a witness to the unbelievers and then the end of the age shall come.” The last time I checked it is too late to change that. The end of the age is upon us.

There are countless stories in history where people try to silence those who follow Christ and those who try to eradicate His word from the earth. They have always failed. In the last 2,000 years the adversary has learned that it more effectual to join the church membership than to bring adversity and terror against it. Joel Osteen, in his wonderful interview with Oprah, said before he nervously preached for the first time, his father, John Osteen told him, “Joel just get up there and share and take one of my messages you really like and take the points and preach that because nobody (in those days) knows the Word of God.” Thank God today is a little different.

The fact is even the poorest of Jesus’ disciples know John 3:16. Now our prayer for the great player should be that he will cease to eat and drink and rise up to play. 1Corinthians 10:7 says, “Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” I have nothing negative to say about Tim Tebow of course, or “tebowing.” The Denver Broncos quarterback demonstrates a powerful scripture, James 5:16b which says, “…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” If Tim Tebow has learned this one perhaps he will be a great evangelist. That is God’s goal line!

John 3:16 is written to “whosoever” and whosoever may have the same kind of victory in all arenas that Denver experienced on January 8 which equals 9 and that is the number of change, if Christ becomes their Savior and Lord. When you add the year 2012 which equals 5, that is how many stones David required to kill off the rest of the threatening giants including Goliath. Together they equal 14 which is the biblical number of the generations till Christ comes.   If He does return you can call it a coincidence and I can call if a miracle. If He does return as promised in the scripture, you can call it a coincidence and try to dismiss it. But right now it’s still time to discover that God gave His perfect Son for flawed beings like you and me. To as many as receive Him, He gave the power to become the Sons of God. One of the thieves crucified beside Jesus said, “Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus replied, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43) That is better than winning the Super Bowl!
